The geophysical description of the Pilot Zone was supplemented by conducting a census of birds and mammals that inhabit the area permanently or temporarily when migrating.
The purpose of this census is to identify the main effects caused by the presence of offshore wind or wave generation systems in the Pilot Zone.
The visual censuses were conducted using methods that are standardised Europe-wide by the ESAS (European Seabirds At Sea) and MMA (Marine Mammal Association).A wide range of species were identified, including (click here to go to the report):
